ABOUT ME

I’m Valerie, and the path that led me here wasn’t straight or simple—it was human. Before I ever sat in the therapist’s chair, I was in the client’s seat. I know how powerful this work can be, because I’ve lived it.

From an early age, I underwent therapy myself. I encountered numerous exceptional therapists who helped me overcome the challenges I faced in life. I was inspired to do the same for others after seeing how they helped me turn my life around. I made the decision to go back to graduate school at a later point in my life, after gaining valuable work experience in a range of diverse work settings across the globe. I am passionate about counseling and helping others achieve their best selves.

I graduated from The Open University in the United Kingdom with a B.A. with Honours in Psychology and Counselling. I then pursued my Master’s degree in Spain in Third Generation Cognitive Therapies. I have worked internationally in both private practice and clinics with a wide range of patients, from teenagers to adults to couples. I implement a personalized approach using various therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Commitment and Acceptance Therapy, Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy, tailored to each client’s needs.

Life can present challenges that are difficult to navigate. However, I believe that we all possess the strength and resilience to grow and change, and to live a more fulfilling life. Therapy is a challenging yet supportive process that involves self-reflection and honest communication. It is my priority to create a space where you feel comfortable and open. My objective is to assist you in achieving your goals in a supportive, empathetic, and compassionate environment where you feel safe.

Therapy provides a safe and supportive environment where you can feel understood and accepted. Furthermore, it is a place to overcome painful experiences. I am dedicated to working in-depth with sensitivity to your life story and issues, while acknowledging the positive and negative aspects of your unique narrative. We will identify solutions to address your short-term or long-term challenges. It is my mission to provide you with the support you deserve during life’s challenges.

Together, we will work to gain a deeper insight into your personal characteristics and your relationships. We leverage your strengths to facilitate healing, growth, and change. It is possible that you are highly functional in certain areas but struggling in others. You may also be seeking to establish meaningful connections or to find your voice in a relationship. Therapy can facilitate these outcomes.

It should be noted that my style of practice does not involve mere smiles and nods; I pride myself on a more engaged approach. I adopt a hands-on approach and work alongside you to overcome the challenges you are facing. I have experience dealing with a wide range of issues, including depression, abuse, addiction, and anxiety amongst many other issues. I encourage clients to discuss any topic they feel is relevant to their therapy. There is no need to feel ashamed in my space. My practice is a safe and confidential place to be honest and vulnerable.
